An original pair of 1944 dated British army camouflage windproof trousers in a size 6 and in good condition.
This pattern of trousers was introduced in 1943 and was based on the earlier drab and snow windproof trousers. These examples are made from a gabardine material and are cut in the same style as the earlier windproofs with a drawstring waist and map pocket to the left leg. The seat features a reinforced section and ankle tabs are located to the cuff which fasten with green vegetable ivory (plastic) buttons. The trousers have been altered having had seams added to the rear of the trousers which has tapered the leg.
To the rear of the trousers the original label is still present and is bright and legible. It bears the title 'Trousers, Windproof' and the size of 6. The manufacturer's name 'Denhams (Norwich) Ltd) is present as is the date of 1944 and the War Department broad arrow marking.
The trousers are designed to be worn as an over-trousers and to be worn by someone with around a 35" waist. When laid flat they measure -
Waist - 19 1/2"
Rise - 16"
Rear rise - 20"
Inside leg - 30 1/2"
Outside leg - 45"
Cuff - 8"
The trousers are in good condition overall with limited signs of wear and use. Overall they display well and are very wearable although there is a very small hole to the front and a larger hole at the cuff - both of which are pictured. They are of course a vintage item so may have small issues commensurate with age.
A nice good pair of windproof trousers with a wartime date.
