A nice originally badged and large size wartime battledress jacket which belonged to a Major of the Royal Army Service Corps.
The jacket is a british made example which has been havily tailored to suit the original owner. It has had an open faced notch collar added which was very popular with officers in the latter part of the Second World War. It has also had pre austerity style pockt flaps added and leather football buttons have been added. The jacket is fitted with Majors rank to the epaulettes and RASC shoulder titles to the top of each sleeve. Below these are Anti Aircraft Command formation badges. Medal ribbons are fitted above the left breast pocket and include the France and Germany Star which means the original owner served in North West Europe between 1944 and 1945. He was also mentioned in dispatches.
Inside the jacket the original label is is still present and states the size as 15 which is one of the largest produced. The maker's name of 'Town Mills Ltd' is also present as is the 1944 date and the War Department broad arrow marking. 3
The jacket is in very good condition with only limited signs of age and wear. It displays well but is a vintage, pre-owned item so may have small flaws commensurate with age.
A nice originally badge BD jacket with some excellent re-tailoring details.
