A fantastic original 1940 Pattern (Austerity) Battledress Blouse which belonged to a private of the Royal Army Medical Corps who served in North West Europe in 1944-45.
The jacket is an early austerity pattern example which still features two interior pockets as well as the chocolate brown coloured buttons which are often associated with mid-war produced battledress items. It is made from the standard khaki green coloured wool serge material and features a chromium plated waist buckle which fastens the waist. Rare original Dutch made Royal Army Medical Corps shoulder titles are fitted to the top of each sleeve below which are 11th Armoured formation badges which were made in Britain by 'Display Patents'. This combination would suggest the blouse was badged and worn in the latter part of 1944. RAMC arm of service stripes are also present as is a single trade qualification bar made from maroon coloured worsted to the bottom of the right sleeve which denotes class two tradesman. Below this are 4 long service chevrons which denote 4 years service. Medal ribbons are fitted to the chest including the France and Germany star which indicate that the original owner fought in North West Europe in 1944-45. As well as this there is a khaki lanyard fitted to the left shoulder.
Inside the jacket the original label is present and is still bright and legible. It states the size as 6 and bear's the maker's name of 'Hart & Levy Limited' which is an uncommon maker. There is also a purple issue stamp which bears the date of December 1942. This is confirmed by the adjacent War Department acceptance stamp which is surmounted with the letter 'O' which denotes 1942 as the year of issue.
The jacket is in excellent condition with only limited signs of wear and age. Overall it displays very well with no serious flaws or damage but please take time to study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that it is a vintage, pre-owned item which may have small issues commensurate with age.
A fantastic original battledress with some excellent badges. A must have for the serious collector!
