Original 1942 Dated 1940 Pattern Battledress Trousers - Size 18

Code: 53333

SOLD

An original pair of 1942 dated 1940 pattern British Army Battledress trousers in a large size 18.

This pattern of trousers was introduced in the middle of 1940 following the retreat from Dunkirk. They feature a twin pleated first field dressing pocket to the right hip which is the main feature which differentiates them from the earlier pattern. The trousers are made from the standard khaki coloured serge wool and feature belt loops at the waist but no ankle tabs as these had been deleted from the pattern by this stage in the war. Stamped brass buttons are fitted throughout (brace buttons have been changed for green plastic) and a revolving shank button is fitted to the First Field Dressing pocket, as is common to find.

Inside the trousers there is a War Department acceptance stamp which is surmounted by the letter 'O' which denotes 1942 as the year of issue. The size is also marked inside as '18' which was the largest standard size produced.

The trousers will suit around a 37" waist and when laid flat they measure -

Waist - 18 3/4"
Inside leg - 27"

The trousers are not in the best condition which is reflected in the price. There are a variety of holes which may have been caused by moths and are detailed in the pictures. Aside from the holes the trousers are good with some service wear etc. Please take time to study the pictures before purchasing.

Whilst not the finest pair of BD trousers, they are an original pair with a clear acceptance stamp and are a large size.
