An original pair of early war RAF Ordinary Airman’s trousers dated 1941 which were re-issued in 1944.
These trousers are typical of early British made RAF OA trousers featuring brass buttons and a white cotton lining. The original label is also present to the exterior of the trousers which are usually missing as they were often removed or worn through. This label however is a fine, bright example which is still clearly legible. The trousers bear the title of 'Trousers Blue Grey O/A' and the size is stated as No.27. The 1941 contract number is also present towards the bottom of the label. There is a date which appears to be 1941 below this although it is very hard to read.
There is also a re-issued label as illustrated in picture 6. These labels were added to clothes which were 'part worn serviceable' and are common to find with early war dates alongside re-issue dates. There is a War Department acceptance stamp which is surmounted by the letter 'M' which denotes the year of re-issue as 1944. The original owner has also marked his serial number of 1627141 which may offer the potential of further research.
The trousers will suit a 31" waist and when laid flat they measure -
Waist - 15 3/4"
Inside leg - 28"
The overall condition of the trousers is very good as can be seen in the photographs. The trousers have been worn but have no serious flaws and just the usual signs of service wear etc. Please take time to study the pictures and bear in mind that they are a vintage, pre-worn item.
Overall a very nice original pair of RAF trousers with a nice label and early date. These would compliment any RAF collection without a doubt!
