An original pair of 1940s Khaki Drill Shorts in a large size 38.
These shorts have no labels or stamps so are quite likely private purchase examples. They feature the double buckle and strap waist closure which was first utilized on the 1941 pattern Khaki Drill uniform. The shorts are made from a khaki coloured cotton drill and feature plastic buttons - both of which are typical of 1940s manufacture. The fly fastens with buttons and both the front and the back of the shorts feature twin pleats which is a trait of British KD from this period. A patch pocket is located to the rear which fastens with a 'Swift' brand zipper which is an interesting detail not often encountered during this period.
The shorts are a rare larger size which should easily fit a 38" waist and possibly slightly larger. When laid flat they measure -
Waist - 19 3/4"
Rise - 15 1/2"
Rear rise - 17 1/2"
Inside leg - 8"
Outside leg - 21"
Cuff - 13"
The shorts are in good wearable condition and only shown limited signs of wear and age. Overall they look to be very clean and wearable but please bear in mind that these shorts are a vintage, pre-owned item which may have small issues commensurate with age.
A nice pair of original 1940s shorts in a hard to find larger size!
