A lovely original example of an early war British Army Khaki Drill Shirt made from an extra loose weave cellular cotton.

These loose weave cellular cotton shirts usually date from 1941. Whilst there is no date stamp, this shirt most likely dates from the early war period. It features removable epaulettes and a half-placket front which are notable features of the wartime produced shirts.

This pattern or shirt was introduced at the beginning of the Second World War and was issued to all ranks of the British Army and also saw use with the RAF. It is made from cellular cotton which is a lightweight, breathable fabric ideally suited to the tropics. It features long sleeves, two pleated breast pockets, a stand and fall collar and removable epaulettes. Plastic buttons fasten the front, the cuffs and the breast pockets - all of which are in perfect order.

Inside the collar of the shirt the original markings are still bright and legible. The maker's name of 'G. S. Co' is present and next to this is the War Department broad arrow marking. The size number of 4 is also present.

The shirt will suit around a 38" chest and w hen laid flat it measures -

Chest - 21 3/4"
Inside arm - 20 1/2"
Outside arm - 22 3/4"
Length - 35"
Shoulders - 16 1/2"
Collar - 14 1/2"

The shirt is in good condition with some limited signs of wear and age. There are some light marks etc which are illustrated in the pictures so please take time to study these before purchasing and bear in mind that this is a vintage, pre-owned item which may have small flaws commensurate with age.

A very good example of this rare pattern of wartime KD shirt in nice wearable condition.
