An original 1945 dated British Army 1940 Pattern (Austerity) Battledress Blouse in a size 9.

This pattern of jacket was introduced in 1942 as an austerity pattern, replacing the earlier 1940 pattern which had a fly front and flapped pockets. This utility pattern has exposed buttons to the front and pockets which are green coloured vegetable ivory (plastic) examples. It also features exposed buttons to the cuff and only the one interior pocket which are more notable details of the austerity pattern.  The jacket is fitted with three original Royal Armoured Corps pattern rank stars to each epaulette which denote the rank of captain.

Inside the blouse the original issue label is still present and is bright and legible. It states the size as 9 which is designed to fit up to a height of 5' 8" and a chest of 39" - 40". The maker's name of 'James Smith & Co (Derby) Ltd' is also present, as is the 1945 date and the War Department broad arrow. As well as this there is a War Department acceptance stamp which is surmounted by the letter 'Z' which denotes 1945 as the year of issue.

When laid flat the jacket measures -

Chest - 23"
Waist - 17 1/2" (Adjustable)
Inside arm - 18"
Outside arm - 25"
Shoulders - 18 1/4"
Length at back - 21"

The condition of the blouse is good and it is still totally wearable. There are some light moth grazes and a few very small holes which are illustrated in the pictures. Overall it is a good jacket but please study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that this is a vintage, pre-worn item which has flaws commensurate with age.

A good original battledress jacket with a clear label and in a good size.
