An original pair of British Army camouflage windproof trousers dating from the Second World War.

This pattern of trousers was introduced in 1943 and was based on the earlier drab and snow windproof trousers. These examples are made from the  lightweight gabardine fabric and are cut in the same style as the earlier windproofs with a wide leg, drawstring waist and map pocket to the left leg. The seat features a reinforced section and ankle tabs are located to the cuff which fasten with green vegetable ivory (plastic) buttons.

To the rear of the trousers the original label is still present and most of the details are still legible. It bears the title of 'Trousers Windproof' below which is the size of 6. The maker's name of C.W.S Ltd is also present and denotes that these were made by the Co-operative Worker's Society, better known today as the Co-op. Towards the bottom of the label is the War Department broad arrow marking and the date which appears to read 1943.

The trousers are designed to be worn over the battledress uniform and are therefore cut in a wide manner. The drawstring waist allows them to be pulled in a lot but when laid flat they measure -

Waist - 22"
Rise - 19 1/2"
Rear rise - 20"
Inside leg - 30"
Outside leg - 43"
Cuff - 10 1/2"

The trousers are in good condition overall with signs of wear and use. There are numerous repairs which have been done to a high standard on a machine and are very hard to see due to the camouflage pattern. Please take time to study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that it is a vintage, pre-worn item.

A nice original pair of wartime windproof trousers!
