An original British Army officer's private purchase khaki beret which dates from the Second World War.

This pattern of hat was a popular alternative to the officer's peaked cap or Field Service Cap during WW2. They began to appear in earnest around 1943 and were worn by a plethora of regiments throughout the British Army. They offered a practical, comfortable yet smart alternative and therefore proved popular. They are however rare to find today and not often offered for sale on the open market.

The beret is typical of wartime officer's examples. It is made from a khaki brown coloured wool felt and features a separate headband. Two green painted grommets are fitted to one side which act as vents and the interior is lined with a black coloured cotton sateen material. A large diamond shaped label is fitted to the centre of the lining and is marked 'Regulation Pattern Ref No. H.8'. The size has also been marked using a stamp and white ink. It reads 6 7/8.

The overall condition is good with signs of age along with a couple of small moth nips and some moth grazes. It displays well but please take time to study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that it is a vintage, pre-owned item which has some flaws commensurate with age.

A nice original example which would make a good addition to any British Army collection.
