An original pair of early 1940 dated British Army PT shorts in Khaki.
Early in the war the British Army was manufacturing PT shorts in khaki as well as blue. There are a number of period photographs and newsreels that show many of these lighter coloured shorts being worn, making them quite desirable today.
The shorts are made from a khaki cotton drill and feature an elastic waist. Inside the shorts it is still possible to see where the original cloth label would have been which is marked out by a rectangular stitching mark. Whilst the label is missing the War Department WD stamp is still present and is surmounted by a Q which denotes 1940 as the year of issue.
The shorts are a good size and due to their elastic waist will fit between a 34" and 42" waist.
A rare early war item and a must have for the serious BEF collector!
