A very good example of an WW2 Auxiliary Territorial Service Handbag clearly dated 1945.
This handbag is the standard pattern issued to members of the ATS throughout the Second World War and features a canvas body, brass lightening zipper and leather shoulder strap.
Inside the bag is marked with the maker and the date twice, once on each side, quite possibly before the handbag was made. The makers name 'Bagcraft LTD' is stamped above the 1945 date and the War Department broad arrow marking. The original owners name and service number have also been added to the inside of the bag in ink.
The condition of the bag is very good. It has clearly seen use as it is a little dirty and the edges are worn but it is in sound condition overall. The brass lightening zipper functions well and the leather strap is in good usable condition. Overall the handbag displays very well.
These original handbags are now getting harder to find, especially with such nice markings as this!
