Original WW2 General Service Corps Coloured Field Service Cap

Original WW2 General Service Corps Coloured Field Service Cap

Code: 54797

SOLD

An original General Service Corps coloured field service cap which was made by 'Harry Hill' during the Second World War.

These caps were popular in the inter-war period and were worn with the No.1 blues uniform as well as with the standard Service Dress uniform on special occasions. They also saw use throughout the Second World War and made a nice alternative headdress when 'walking out' or similar.

This example may date from either the 1930s or the Second World War as it is not the economy version produced throughout much of the war. The main body of the cap is made from a black coloured wool and features bullion along the top of the crown and skirt. A brass General Service Corps cap badge is fitted to the left side and two small General Service buttons are fitted to the front.

The interior is lined a black coloured rayon and the sweatband is made from velvet. The original label is still present inside the hat and bears the Bedrord maker's name of 'Harry Hill Ltd'.

The hat is a large size which will fit around a size 7 1/2 and measures 11" along the opening when laid flat.

The cap is in good condition as can be seen in the pictures. There are only limited signs of wear but please study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that this is a vintage, pre-owned item which may have small flaws commensurate with age.

The hat comes complete with its original cardboard packaging as illustrated in picture 5. The original owner clearly stored the hat this way from new.

Altogether a good wartime example in great condition which would be ideal for someone interested in the GSC or SOE.
