A nice original example of a British Army Officers Forage Cap dating from the Second World War.
These caps were first issued during the Great War by Officers (particularly those in the Royal Flying Corps) and became a popular alternative to the peaked cap during the Second World War. This example is typical of those made in the 1940s and is fitted with two General Service buttons to the front. The interior is lined with a gold coloured rayon and features a velvet headband fitted around the inside edge of the cap. There is a small hole to the exterior where a cap badge has been fitted previously.
The cap is a large size and measures 11 1/4" along the inside age meaning it will suit a size of around 7 1/2 and potentially larger.
The overall condition of the cap is excellent as can be seen in the photographs. The wool barathea used to make the body of the cap is perfect with no rips, tears or signs of moth. The interior is also good with some signs of wear.
Overall, a nice example of a private purchase officers cap which would suit both the collector and the re-enactor equally well.
