Original 1944 Dated British Army Mountain Ski Cap - Size 7

SOLD

An original British Army ski cap dated 1944 and in a size 7.

This pattern of cap was introduced in 1943 as part of the wider range of equipment which was specially produced for troops training in mountain warfare. It is made from a khaki green coloured barathea wool as was used for the FS cap and early GS caps. It features a reinforced stiff peak and fold down ear flaps which feature a sheepskin section. These flaps are secured with a cotton tape in both the up and down positions.

Inside the cap features a khaki green coloured wool shirting lining which is held into the cap with three hooks meaning that it can be removed. This features the size marking of 7 as well as the 1944 date. When this section is pulled out of the cap it reveals the War Department acceptance stamp which is surmounted by the letter 'M' which confirms 1944 as the year of issue.

The cap is in good condition with no real previous signs of wear or use. Overall it displays very well and is totally wearable but please take time to study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that this is a vintage, pre-worn item which may have small flaws commensurate with age.

A nice original example in great condition!
