An original 1940 dated British Army Field Service Cap in good condition which is a size 7 1/8.
This pattern of cap came into issue with the British Army shortly before the beginning of the Second World War and saw use throughout the conflict. It was replaced by the General Service Cap in 1943 and is now an iconic piece of headwear from the early Second World War period.
The original stamps are still present to the interior of the cap and are bright and legible. The maker's name of J. Compton Son & Webb' is present as is the size of 7 1/8. The date is marked but only partly legible. As well as this there is a War Department acceptance stamp which is surmounted by the letter 'O' which confirms the year of issue as 1940.
The cap is in good condition as can be seen in the pictures. There are only limited signs of wear and overall the cap displays very well but please take time to study the pictures before purchasing as this is a vintage, pre-worn item which may have small flaws commensurate with age.
Altogether a nice cap that would make a good addition to a collection or could suit a reenactor.
