An original Horizon Blue French Army Officers hat in good condition.
This pattern of cap came into use with the French Army in 1916 and saw issue throughout the rest of the Great War. The cap is made from a horizon blue serge and features dark blue piping which is matching stitched on. A hand stitched hole is found to the front left-hand side of the cap which may be for a cap badge or similar.
The interior of the cap feature a white cotton drill sweatband, typical of the Great War era. Onto this is a circular ink stamp as often found on French military items. There is a further ink stamp above this to the main body of the cap which appears to be two numbers.
The cap is in good condition and displays well. There are no signs of serious damage or wear although there are some darker areas which look like staining or similar. This may come out with careful cleaning but I do not know.
Overall a very nice original Great War Officers hat which would make a nice addition to any collection!
