An original British Army Armband Dating from the Great War.
I have not been able to positively identify this item but it came with the Great War Royal Engineers kit bag and certainly looks to date from the same period. The kit bag was attributed to a man who served with the Inland Waterways and Docks meaning this armband most likely relates to his role also.
Made from a piece of scarlet cloth and featuring a black embroidered ‘G’ to the centre, this armband is typical in construction of other surviving Great War examples. It features brass pop studs to close it around the arm and it has a khaki twill backing to the reverse.
The condition of the piece is reasonable for its age but there are some areas of moth tracking etc. Please study the pictures.
All in all, a nice WW1 period item worthy of further research!
