A very rare original British Army 1963 Pattern DPM Windproof Smock dating from the early 1970s.
This pattern of smock was introduced in 1971 and replaced the olive green smock previously in issue. It is made from a heavyweight satin-backed cotton-drill which has the Disruptive Pattern Material camouflage pattern screen printed onto it. The DPM print features a typical early colourway with 'spotty' sections to the dark part of the camouflage. The silhouette of the smock is still recognisably the same as the windproof smocks produced in the Second World War with four patch pockets to the front and a hood which is of three piece construction. Tabs are located to the wrists which fasten with plastic buttons of the same type used to fasten the pockets. The hood features a cotton drawstring and there are openings above the bottom hem through which another drawstring can be fitted. The front of the smock fastens with a Newey 'NZ' branded zip which is typical of the period.
Inside the jacket the original label is still present and is bright and legible. It bears the title of 'Smock Windproof 1963 Pattern' below which is the size of 6. The maker's name of 'James Smith & Co. (Derby) ltd' is also present as is the A/78 contract number which dates the smock to the early 1970s.

The smock is in very good condition as can be seen in the pictures. There are some signs of wear and use and a small hole to the rear which is illustrated in picture 14. Overall it displays extremely well but please take time to study the pictures and bear in mind that this is a vintage, pre-owned item which may have small flaws commensurate with age.
