Scarce Original 1944 Dated Australian HBT Battledress Jacket

Scarce Original 1944 Dated Australian HBT Battledress Jacket

Code: 53468

SOLD

A rare original Australian Herringbone Twill Jungle Green Battledress Jacket, clearly dated 1944 and in good condition.

This pattern of jacket was produced for wear in tropical climates and is clearly based on the British battledress jacket design. It is made from a green coloured HBT fabric which makes it clearly different to any British made jackets. It features breast pockets to the front which have the inverted pleat to the centre - the same as seen on the Jungle Green battledress trousers pockets. Brown coloured buttons are fitted throughout and are of the same style usually encountered on wartime Australian made clothing. The waist belt buckle is a pressed metal example and the front of the jacket has the ability to be fastened at the neck using a single button as shown in picture 6.

Inside the jacket the original labels are still present and are legible. They are the standard style of label seen in Australian military clothing from this period and it bears the 1944 date along with the words 'made in Australia'. Below this is a second label which has space for the owner's name and regimental number - another typical feature of Australian items.

The jacket will suit a 36" - 38" chest depending on desired fit and when laid flat it measures -

Chest - 21"
Waist - 17"
Inside arm - 18 1/2"
Outside arm - 23 1/2"
Shoulders - 18 1/4"
Length - 23"

The jacket is in good condition overall and is still wearable. There are two holes near to the left cuff and some marks to the sleeve as shown in picture 10. There are general signs of use and wear etc so please take time to study the pictures before purchasing.

A rare original piece of 1940s military wear!
