An extremely rare British wool blouson jacket made by 'Shepherd Garment' in the late 1930s to early 1940s.
This brand made sporting clothing in the 1930s and 1940s aimed at those interested in aviation and motorsport. They are very rare to find today with this being only the second example I have come across with the first being in my collection.
The jacket is typical of the late 1930s and early 1940s. It is made from a navy blue coloured wool and is fitted with a metal 'Lightning' brand zipper. It features a leather collar and matching leather cuffs which fasten with buttons. Angled welt pockets are located to the front and are trimmed in the same leather as used on other parts of the jacket. The waist features an elasticated section to the rear which is adjusted by leather tabs and buckles, located on each hip.
Inside the jacket the original label is still present and is the same as those found in other surviving examples. It features a graphic depicting a shepherd, an abbey and an aeroplane. It states 'Motor & Aviation Equipment, Guaranteed 100% British Manufacture, Made in England'. A smaller size tag is present to the bottom of the label which reads '30'.
The jacket is an extra small size and when laid flat measures -
Chest - 17"
Waist - 14"
Inside arm - 14"
Outside arm - 18 1/4"
Length - 18 1/2"
Shoulders - 14 1/2"
The jacket is in good condition for its age and is very wearable. It does have signs of wear and use and there is an area of damage to the front and a small hole to the waist as shown in the pictures. Please take time to study them before purchasing.
