Amazing and super rare 1930 dated British suede blouson sports jacket by 'Tom Hill Ltd' clearly dated 1930 and featuring a brass period lightening zipper.
This is quite possibly the earliest surviving men's British suede blouson jacket in the world! Clearly dated May 1930, this style of jacket was still very much at the cutting edge of men's fashion at this point. Later in the decade this style was becoming something more commonly seen, but in 1930 it would have been a real statement piece.
The jacket is made from a honey coloured suede and features a knitted waistband, knitted cuffs and a knitted collar face which is set into suede. To the front of the jacket are two buttoning patch pockets typical of this style of jacket. The front of the jacket closes with a beautiful brass lightning zipper which works perfectly.
Inside the jacket the original label is still present and is typical of those found in earlier pieces such as this. The makers name 'Tom Hill LTD' is present as is the address '26 Brompton Road S.W.1'. The date of May 1930 is also present in ink.
The jacket will comfortably fit somebody of a 42" chest. The actual measurements are as follows -
Chest - 22 1/2"
Shoulders - 19"
Sleeves - 24"
Length at back - 25"
The jacket is in good condition for its age with some signs of wear and water damage which has been reflected in the price. There are a few darns and repairs to the knitted parts and some spotting/staining to the suede as can be seen in the pictures. There is also some water damage to the suede exterior to the shoulders and sleeves which can be seen in the pictures.
This is a very rare an collectible jacket in a good wearable size and would make a fine addition to any menswear or outerwear collection.
