An original Victorian era boy's frock coat in good condition.
This coat may have originally been a military jacket although this style was worn outside of the Army and the Navy. The construction is typical of the Victorian period with the main body being made from a dark coloured serge wool. It is cut in a typical frock coat style which was popular at the time and features a single breasted front which fastens with dome headed brass ball buttons. A stand collar is trimmed in a gold bullion and two welt pockets are located to the chest. Inside the jacket is partially lined and features a striped sleeve lining which is again typical of the era.
The coat is a small size which will suit around a 26" chest and when laid flat it measures -
Chest - 14 1/2"
Inside arm - 15"
Outside arm - 19 1/4"
Shoulders - 12"
Length - 30 1/2"
The condition of the jacket is good with various signs of wear and age. There is some loss of stitching to the sleeve lining inside the jacket but overall it is in sound condition. It is of course a vintage item which may have small issues commensurate with age.
A nice original coat with some typical period details.
