An original 1920s wool collarless shirt made in France.
This shirt is typical of those made and worn during the first half of the 20th Century in France. It is made from a wool cotton mix flannel material and features a gingham check pattern. The shirt is of half placket design which is pulled on over the head. This design was prevalent from the Victorian period through to the 1950s when full button front shirts started to gain popularity. The shirt features a barrel cuff which fastens with a button and a neckband collar.
The shirt features typical French repairs including replaced cuffs which have been made from a contrasting material and a large panel fitted to the front of the shirt. As well as this there are typical period darn repairs, all of which add to the character and story of the garment.
The shirt is a medium size which will suit around a 40" chest depending on desired fit and when laid flat measures -
Chest - 23 1/2"
Inside arm - 20"
Outside arm - 22"
Shoulders - 17 3/4"
Length at back - 41"
Collar - 18"
It is important to remember that these shirts are cut very wide across the chest to allow them to be pulled on over the head so the true fit will be much smaller than the measurement provided.
The shirt is in well worn condition but is still very wearable. There is wear to the left elbow where the material has worn through as illustrated in picture 6. This is a vintage, pre-worn shirt so may have other small issues commensurate with age, so please take time to study the pictures.
An original period shirt with some great details and repairs.
