A nice original men's waistcoat which was made in France in the early part of the 20th Century.
This waistcoat is cut in a typical manner for the late Victorian period through to the Edwardian period. It features a very high buttoning front which is a notable feature of waistcoats made during this period. Iit also features an eight button front which again is not something found on later waistcoats. The front panel is made from a soft, black coloured melton wool and features three welt pockets. All the buttons are fabric covered which is yet another trait of waistcoats from this period. The interior of the waistcoat is lined and features an intricate stripe pattern. To the rear is a cinch-back belt and brass buckle which is again usually found on waistcoats of this vintage.
The waistcoat is a rare larger size which will suit up to a 42" chest depending on desired fit. When laid flat it measures -
Chest - 21 1/"
Shoulders - 16"
Length - 24"
The waistcoat is in good condition for its age, especially when considering that it is well over 100 years old. It is still very wearable but please take time to study the pictures and bear in mind that this is a vintage, pre-worn item which may have small flaws commensurate with age.
A nice early waistcoat with all the classic details associated with this period.
