A nice original British engineer work jacket dating from the 1970s.
This style of jacket was very popular in the UK throughout the first half of the 20th Century and carried on being used well into the 1970s. The simple three button design is typically period and the three patch pocket design is utilitarian yet functional ,making them ideal for men working in factories, workshops, garages and many other places. This example was worn by someone who worked for Great Western Railway.
The jacket is made from a wool material and features no rear vent in the same style as they were before WW2. The front of the jacket fastens with metal buttons which bear the Great Western Railway 'GWR' logo. The jacket features a notched lapel which is typical of these jackets and there is a cloth embroidered GWR patch fitted to the right lapel.
The jacket will suit around a 40" chest depending on desired fit and when laid flat it measures -
Chest - 22 1/4"
Inside arm - 16"
Outside arm - 23 1/2"
Shoulders - 18"
Length - 28"
The jacket is in good condition as can be seen in the photographs. It shows signs of age and wear but is still totally wearable. There is a mark to the right sleeve which is illustrated in picture 5. Please study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that this is a vintage item which may have small issues commensurate with age.
