Original WW2 US Army Enlisted Men's Summer Shirt - RAF History

Code: 54822

SOLD

An original United States Army Enlisted Men's shirt dating from the Second World War.

This shirt belonged to Corporal Sydney Cooper 991457 who served with the RAF throughout WW2. He joined up before February 1940 so would have been serving during the Battle of Britain. He was posted to No.111 Operational Training Unit, Nassau in the Bahamas where he spent a long period. Whilst there he was issued with some American made tropical clothing which included this shirt.

This pattern of shirt was produced for enlisted men of the United States Army and Army Air Force to wear in hot climates. The pattern is the same as the wool version but made from a khaki tan coloured cotton twill. It features a full button front which fastens with standard pattern plastic US military buttons and still retains its gas flap to the interior. Patch pockets are fitted to the chest and the barrel cuff fastens with a button.

The original owner has fitted an Army pattern corporal stripe to the right sleeve which is a great period detail.

Inside the short the original label is still present. The size tag is still bright and legible and states the size as 15 32.

The shirt will suit a 36" chest and when laid flat measure -

Chest - 22"
Inside arm - 19 1/2"
Outside arm - 22 1/2"
Shoulders - 17"
Length at back - 31 1/2"

The shirt is in good condition with some signs of wear and laundering. It is still totally wearable but does have some light marks etc. Please take time to study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that they are a vintage, pre-worn item which may have small issues commensurate with age.

A nice original RAF attributed shirt with original insignia.
