An original blue cotton cyclist blouson jacket made by 'Le Populaire' in France during the 1960s.

This style of jacket was popular for many decades and first came into fashion during the 1930s. They are often referred to as 'cyclist' jacket due to their association with cycling but are also know as 'blouson' jackets. This style became incredibly popular during the 1940s as a casual sporting style jacket and are now a classic piece of vintage menswear which are hard to find today.

The jacket is made from a French blue coloured sanfaroized cotton as was used in large quantities during the mid Century period for workwear. It is cut short in the body being designed to be worn with high waisted trousers and the front fastens with a brass 'Prophete' branded zipper. There are two angle pockets to the chest which also fastens with brass zips although these eaxmples are maker marked 'Ailee' which is a common maker to be found during this period.

Inside the jacket the original label is still present and bears the maker's name of 'Le Populaire' along with typical period graphics.

The jacket is a larger size which will fit a 42"- 44" chest well depending on desired fit. When laid flat it measures -

Chest - 25"
Waist - 18"
Inside arm - 18 1/4"
Outside arm - 23 1/2"
Shoulders - 20 1/2"
Length at back - 24 1/2"

The jacket is in good condition with only limited signs of wear and age. It displays well and is totally wearable with no serious flaws or issues. Please take time to study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that this is a vintage, pre-owned jacket with some small issues commensurate with age.

A nice original mid century jacket which is a hard to find style and large size.
