An original American made reversible Letterman Jacket dating from the 1950s.

This style of jacket was worn by members of School and College sports teams during the mid Century period and are often called Varsity jackets. They were extremely popular and are now an iconic piece of clothing which are instantly recognisable. This example is made in a bottle green coloured wool and features matching knitted cuffs and waistband which both feature twin white stripes. The front fastens metal press studs and slash pockets are located to the front which feature white welt openings. A large letterman patch in the shape of an 'L' is fitted to the front.

The interior of the jacket is lined in an off white coloured rayon material. The jacket can be turned inside out to have this side out when worn and this also reveals contrasting green rayon arms and welt pockets. A striking combination!

The jacket is a larger size which will fit up to a 40" chest well. When laid flat it measures -

Chest - 23"
Inside arm - 19 1/2"
Outside arm - 24 1/2"
Shoulders - 17 1/2"
Length - 25"

The jacket is in good condition with some signs of wear and age. There is wear to the rayon side particularly around the press studs towards the bottom of the jacket. There is also some staining etc. Please take time to study the pictures and bear in mind that this is a vintage, pre-worn item which may have small issues commensurate with age.

A classic piece of 1950s Americana in a good wearable size.
