An original pair of scrace British workwear trousers dating from the 1950s and made by 'Holdfast'.
Holdfast were a prolific manufacturer of workwear in the UK in the mid Century period and have now become a very collectable label. The trousers themselves are typical of the early post-war period being made from an indigo blue sanforised cotton and featuring a high rise waist and wide leg. The fly fastens with buttons and more buttons are situated around the inside edge of the waistband to support braces. Belt loops are fitted to the waist and slash pockets are located on each hip. A patch pocket can be found to the rear of the trousers and a spanner pocket is fitted to the side of the right leg.
Inside the trousers the original label is still present and features the classic holdfast graphics and the slogan 'Bears any strain'. It also states the material as 'sanforized regd shrunk fabric'. Below this is a second smaller label with the number '44' on it which denotes the size.
When laid flat the trousers measure -
Waist - 21"
Rise - 15"
Rear rise - 19"
Inside leg - 32 1/2"
Outside leg - 45"
Cuff - 10"
The trousers are in good condition, especially considering they are a vintage work piece. There are some signs of age and minor staining but overall they are sound and display well. Please study the pictures provided.
