An original early to mid 1950s British men's suit jacket in good condition.
This cut of jacket was extremely popular in the U.K during the early part of the 1950s. The long wide lapel and two button fastening was sometimes seen earlier than this but was a very popular style during this period. The jacket is made from a navy blue coloured wool which features an electric blue and white pinstriped pattern which is unchanged from the previous decade. The jacket features a single, short vent to the rear which is common to find during this period and there is also a swing button as an option to fasten the front which is a nice detail.
The interior of the jacket is fully lined in a grey-silver coloured rayon material. The jacket is fully canvassed as is common with British suits made in this period. There are also interior pockets but no signs of any maker's labels or similar.
The jacket will suit around a 39" chest depending on desired fit and when laid flat it measures -
Chest - 21 3/4"
Inside arm - 18"
Outside arm - 25 1/2"
Shoulders - 18 1/4"
Length - 31"
The jacket is in good condition with no major flaws or signs of excessive wear. It displays well and is still very wearable but please take time to study the pictures and bear in mind that it is a vintage, pre-owned jacket which may have small issues commensurate with age.
A nice original 1950s jacket with all the typical features of the day!
