An original men's collarless shirt made by 'Vantella' in the 1950s.
This shirt is typical of those made and worn during the 1950s. It is made from a white poplin cotton which has a box check pattern of yellow and blue, typical of the era. The cuff is a French cuff which is designed to be worn with cufflinks whilst the collar is neckband style made from a plain white coloured cotton material. It is designed to be worn with a detachable collar but can also be worn without one. Below this the original label is still present to the interior and features typical early 1950s graphics. The brand name 'Vantella' is present as are the instructions to wear a Van Huesen branded collar with the shirt. The words 'Made in England' are also present as is the collar size of 14 1/2.
The shirt is a medium size which will suit around a 36" chest depending on desired fit and when laid flat measures -
Chest - 21 3/4"
Inside arm - 23 1/2"
Outside arm - 26 1/4"
Shoulders - 16 1/2"
Length at front - 31"
Length at back - 33"
Collar - 14 1/2"
It is important to remember that this shirt features a french cuff which would usually be worn doubled back and will shorten the sleeve length by roughly 1 3/4".
The shirt is in good condition for its age with some limited signs of wear and use. It displays very well but may have small issues commensurate with age.
A nice original mid-century shirt, typical of those worn in Great Britain during the 1950s.
