SOLD

An original pair of Post Office workers serge wool trousers dating from the 1950s.

These trousers formed part of the uniform worn by men who worked for the General Post Office during the 1950s. They would have originally been worn with the matching waistcoat and jacket, also made from the same dark navy blue coloured wool serge. The trousers are cut in a typical 1950s style with a high rise waist, twin pleated front and separate waistband. Angled pockets are located to the hips and a red stripe runs down the length of the outside leg. The fly fastens with metal buttons and more metal buttons are fitted around the outside edge of the waistband to which braces can be attached.

Remnants of the original paper label are still attached to the seat although no details are visible. This style of label is typical of those found on military and civilian workwear in the mid-Century period.

The trousers will suit around a 30" waist depending on desired fit and when laid flat measure -

Waist - 15 1/2"
Rise - 12 3/4"
Rear rise - 16"
Inside leg - 29"
Outside leg - 40"
Cuff - 9"

The condition of the trousers is good with some signs of wear and age. The metal buttons have tarnished and in some cases rusted and there are some rust marks to the interior. Please study the pictures before purchasing.

A good original pair of 1950s work trousers.
