An original French Chore Jacket in blue and dating from the 1950s.
This type of jacket is synonymous with French artisans, workers and labourers of the mid-century period and is arguably the most iconic jacket ever produced in France. This style of clothing is known in France as 'Bleu de Travail'.
This example dates from approximately the 1950s, the buttons and collar shape are indicators of this. It is made from the usual sanforized cotton material used in France during this period due to its hard wearing nature. The jacket features three patch pockets to the front and a barrel cuff which fastens with buttons.
The jacket is a larger size which will fit a 42" chest. When laid flat it measures -
Chest - 24 1/4”
Inside arm - 22 3/4”
Outside arm - 27 1/2”
Length - 29”
Shoulders - 20”
The condition of the jacket is very good considering it is a vintage work piece from the 1950s. It has some fading and a limited amount of staining as pictured as well as a couple of holes near the armpit (picture 4). Please bear in mind that this is a vintage work piece and will therefore may have small issues consummate with its age.
A good original example with lots of character, fading and staining - just how they should be!
