Original 1950s British Men's Macintosh Raincoat by 'Guardian'

Original 1950s British Men's Macintosh Raincoat by 'Guardian'

Code: 53505

SOLD

An original British made Rubberized Macintosh Raincoat made by 'Guardian' and dating from the 1950s.

The style of this raincoat is totally unchanged from those of the 1930s and 1940s and it could easily pass as being from this period. This style of coat was very popular with British Army officers during the war but was also a common sight in towns and cities across the UK in the post-war period.

The coat is made from a heavy rubberised material designed to keep the rain off and features a partial lining across the shoulder and the top of the chest. The coat features a simple, utilitarian design with a fly covered single breasted front and two flapped pockets are located to the front. Brass eyelets can also be found under each armpit and a hanging loop is situated to the neck although it has broken. The cuffs feature a buttoning tab detail.

Inside the coat the original label is still present.  It reads 'Guardian Regd Weatherproof Made In England' and features typical period graphics.

The coat will fit around a 38"" chest depending on desired fit and when laid flat measures -

Chest - 23"
Inside arm - 18"
Outside arm - 24"
Length - 45"
Shoulders - 18 1/2"

The coat is in heavily worn condition which is reflected in the price. It is still wearable but has various stainings as should be evident from the pictures. There is wear to the top of the left shoulder as shown in picture 9 although this is only the top layer of material and therefore not a hole all the way through the coat. The leatherette banding around the inside of the coat is quite dry with crazing etc. The coat is wearable and looks great but please take time to study the pictures and bear in mind that this is a pre-worn, vintage coat which may have small issues commensurate with age.

Whilst far from perfect this is still an original example with a great label which is in wearable condition. This would be a good addition to a period suit or British Army Officers impression.
