An original men's collared shirt made by 'Monument' in the 1950s.
This shirt is typical of those made and worn during the 1950s. It is made from a wool cotton flannel mix which features a checked pattern of white, blues and red. It is of half-placket design which is pulled on over the wearer's head. This design was prevalent from the Victorian period through to the 1950s when full button front shirts started to gain popularity.
The collar is a stand-and-fall style which features a cutaway collar, typical of the era. Inside the neck the original label is still present to the interior and features typical 1950s graphics. The brand name 'Monument' is present as are the words 'Made in Great Britain'.
The shirt is a small size which will fit no bigger than a 36" chest and when laid flat measures -
Chest - 21 1/2"
Inside arm - 19"
Outside arm - 22 1/4"
Shoulders - 17"
Length at front - 31"
Length at back - 32"
Collar - 15"
It is important to remember that these shirts are cut very wide across the chest to allow them to be pulled on over the head so the true fit will be much smaller than the measurement provided.
The shirt is in good condition for its age with some limited signs of wear and use. It displays very well but may have small issues commensurate with age. Please study the pictures before purchasing.
A nice original mid-century shirt, typical of those worn in Great Britain during the 1950s.
