An original belted back windbreaker jacket which was made in the U.K during the 1950s.
This jacket was made in the post Second World War period and clearly takes its influence from American military jackets worn in WW2 - particularly the M41 Combat Jacket. It is made from a thick cotton linen material which is similar to the sateen used on US military jackets and is the same khaki beige colour. Like the M41 it features a half belt and action back to the rear along with tab adjusters to the bottom at the rear and more to the cuffs, all of which fasten with buttons. The jacket is however much longer in the body than a standard M41 but does feature the same slash pockets and they are located at the same height which helps to give an idea of the extra length. The front of the jacket fastens with a metal zipper which features a nickel plated puller. This bears the brand name of 'Summit' and is typical of the period. The interior of the jacket features a full lining of brown coloured wool.
The jacket is a large size which will easily fit up to a 46" chest and possibly bigger. When laid flat it measures -
Chest - 28 1/2"
Inside arm - 18"
Outside arm - 25"
Shoulders - 23 1/2"
Length at back - 32"
The jacket is in good wearable condition with plenty of signs of wear and age. There is no serious damage or flaws but plenty of wear and some grubby areas. The pocket bags have been replaced with new cotton linings and overall the jacket is wearable. Please take time to study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that this is a vintage, pre-worn item which has some flaws commensurate with age.
An interesting original 1950s piece of outerwear in a rare large size.
