A stunning original 1940s men's overcoat made from a fantastic brown coloured tweed which features a bold windowpane overcheck pattern.
The silhouette of the coat is typical of the 1940s featuring a double breasted front with wide button stance, large patch pockets to the front and a waist belt which is made from matching material. This style was highly popular during the 1940s and is synonymous with the era today. The striking fabric this coat is made from really makes it stand out with its classic 1940s large overcheck pattern set against a classic light brown tweed wool background. The lapel features a very pronounced shape which is a particularly nice detail and the patch pockets have had the check pattern matched to that of the body which is another excellent attribute.
The interior of the coat features a full lining of golden coloured rayon and a single interior pocket. There are no labels but the style, materials and construction confirm that this is a genuine 1940s made overcoat.
The coat is designed to fit a 40" chest but and when laid flat it measures -
Chest - 23 1/2"
Inside arm - 18"
Outside arm - 26"
Shoulders - 20"
Length - 45"
The coat is in good condition as can be seen in the pictures. There are signs of wear and use but overall it displays well and is totally wearable with some small flaws. There is some wear around the collar and another section to the skirt which is illustrated in picture 7. This is covered by the wrap of the coat when worn fastened and hard to notice due to the busy nature of the fabric. It is a vintage, pre-owned item which has been worn so please take time to study the pictures before purchasing.
