An original men's shirt made in the UK in the 1940s.
This shirt may have originally been made for a specific organisation such as the boy scouts as it has a military style size tag in the neck and evidence of having badges fitted to the breast pocket and the sleeve. It is a classic 1940s British shirt in many ways featuring a half placket front and being cut wide across the chest and arms so as to allow it to be pulled on over the wearers head. It is made from a khaki coloured cotton drill and features a fantastic large button down collar. This style of collar is rare to find today and was viewed as a 'sports' collar in the 1930s and 1940s. This style was popular in America as well as parts of Europe but is only occasionally encountered in the UK making this a rare feature.
The shirt is a small size which will suit someone of around a 36" chest depending on desired fit. When laid flat it measures -
Chest - 21 1/2"
Shoulders - 16
Length at front - 32"
Length at back - 34"
Collar - 15"
The shirt is in good condition with some signs of wear and use. There is evidence of where badges have been removed and some marks but overall it is still very wearable. Please take time to study the pictures before purchasing.
A nice original 1940s shirt with a rare collar. A must have for the serious British vintage collector or wearer!
