Original 1940s GPO General Post Office Waistcoat

Code: 52489

SOLD

An original General Post Office black wool waistcoat dating from the 1940s.

This waistcoat formed part of the uniform worn by many people who worked for the Post Office during the inter-war years and 1940s. It is made from a black serge wool and features red piping to the top of all three welt pockets situated on the front of the garment. The interior is lined with a white coloured cotton and the rear panel is black and features a cinchback belt and buckle.

The front of the waistcoat fastens with black horn buttons which feature the GPO design surmounted by a Kings crown. There are remnants of the original paper label to the left armpit as shown in picture 3.

The waistcoat is a small size which will fit around a 34" chest depending on desired fit. When laid flat it measures -

Chest - 17 1/2"
Length - 22"

The waistcoat is in good condition with only limited signs of wear and use. Overall it displays very well and is very wearable. It is a vintage, pre-worn item however so may have small issues commensurate with age.

A nice original inter-war period workwear waistcoat with some nice, subtle details.
