An original pair of French work trousers dating from the 1940s which are in very good condition.
This style of trousers was extremely popular in France during the1940s and throughout the Second World War. This style of trousers was extremely popular with French labourers, Artisans and workers and can also be seen worn by members of the French Resistance and Marquis during the war.
The trousers are made from a heavy dark grey cotton which has a brushed feel to the outside. They feature a classic French striped pattern in shades of grey which is similar to that used for British morning trousers for many years. Angled slash pockets are located to each hip and a separate waistband with belt loops is found at the waist. The trousers fly fastens with buttons and a large hook and eye which is typical of French trousers from the period. A large patch pocket is located to the seat which fastens with a single button.
The trousers will suit around a 34" waist and when laid flat they measure -
Waist - 17"
Rise - 13"
Rear rise - 16"
Inside leg - 27 1/2"
Outside leg - 39"
Cuff - 9 1/4"
The trousers are in very good condition for their age. There are only limited signs of wear and age and overall they are still very fresh and are totally wearable. There is a small flaw to the front right leg as shown in picture 9 but there are no areas of serious damage or wear. Please study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that these are a vintage, pre-owned pair of trousers which have small issues commensurate with age.
A very nice pair of original French work trousers in a classic colourway and a brilliant hard wearing fabric.
