An original pair of French work trousers dating from the 1940s which are in good condition and have some excellent period details.
This style of trousers was extremely popular in France during the1940s and throughout the Second World War with French labourers, Artisans and workers and can also be seen worn by members of the French Resistance and Marquis.
The trousers are made from a heavy dark grey cotton which has a brushed feel to the outside. They feature a classic French striped pattern in shades of grey which is similar to that used for British morning trousers for many years. Straight slash pockets are located to each hip and a separate waistband with belt loops is found at the waist. The trousers fly fastens with buttons and waist adjusters are located to each tip which is a typical period detail.
The trousers will suit around a 33" waist and when laid flat they measure -
Waist - 16 1/2"
Rise - 12 1/2"
Rear rise - 18 1/2"
Inside leg - 27"
Outside leg - 38"
Cuff - 10 1/4"
The trousers are in good condition for their age with signs of wear and use. There is some discolouration and staining as well as a small hole to the front of the left leg which is illustrated in picture 4 and another to the rear as shown in the last picture. Please study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that these are a vintage, pre-owned pair of trousers which have small issues commensurate with age.
A very nice pair of original French work trousers in a classic colourway and a brilliant hard wearing fabric.
