An original 1940s French SNCF Railway worker's jacket in good condition.

This jacket along with the matching trousers was produced in France for a number of years for men working on the SNCF railways. The jacket is typical of chore jackets from this period being made from a heavy duck cotton canvas and featuring a large collar. Whilst French blue was the most popular colour for work jackets and trousers, these railway jackets are made in a light brown and are instantly recognisable as SNCF. The front fastens with buttons which are covered with a fly front and the barrel cuffs also fasten with buttons. A large hanging loop is present to the neck and there is a large interior patch pocket to which a label is affixed. To the underside of the collar is a throat latch which is held in place by two buttons.

The jacket is designed to be worn with a loose fit which needs to be taken into account when studying the measurements. It will suit around a 42" chest depending on desired fit and when laid flat it measures -

Chest - 24"
Inside arm - 20 1/2"
Outside arm - 25"
Shoulders - 19 3/4"
Length - 31"

The jacket is in very good condition and has clearly only seen very light wear, if any at all. There are some light marks etc but these don't overly detract from the jacket. Overall it is a very good example but please take time to study the pictures and bear in mind that it is a vintage, pre-worn item which may have small issues commensurate with age.

A great piece of classic French workwear in nice condition and in a good, wearable size.
