A nice original French 1940s 'Canadienne' barnstormer mackinaw jacket in good used condition.

This style of jacket was popular in France during the mid-Century period and are a classic item today. This double breasted designed with sheepskin collar is often referred to as 'Barnstormer' which was a style of jacket which became popular during the inter-war period with the rise of aviation and motor pursuits. The design was also popular in France with cotton canvas coats such as this being widely produced. This material was chosen for its hard wearing and waterproof qualities which make it very suitable as an outdoor jacket. The double breasted front fastens with leather 'football' style buttons and the original waist belt is even still present and fastens with a metal wire buckle. Leather edged slash pockets are located to the front below which are flapped pockets. There is a yoke detail which passes over the shoulders and features a leather trim which is a nice detail.

The interior of the jacket features a sheepskin lining to the upper section and a quilted section to the skirt. There are no interior pockets.

The coat will suit a 42" chest well and when laid flat it measures -

Chest - 25 1/2"
Inside arm - 17"
Outside arm - 25 1/4"
Shoulders - 21 1/2"
Length at rear - 31"

The coat is in good condition with plenty of signs of wear and age. It is totally wearable and displays well but has some small flaws including a tear to bottom of the right pocket as illustrated in picture 6. There is also some various staining etc and some damage to the collar although it still displays well enough. Please take time to study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that this is a vintage, pre-owned item which has some flaws commensurate with age.

A nice original example in a larger size.
