An original 1940s khaki wool work shirt in good condition.
This shirt most likely started life as a British Army Ordinary Ranks shirt before being converted. The material is the same and the front placket and front buttons are also in keeping. The pockets and epaulettes (and possibly the collar) have most likely been made from the tail section of the shirt and explain why it is much shorter than most shirts of the period. Civilian buttons have been used for the cuffs and epaulettes.
The shirt is of half placket design which is pulled on over the wearer's head. This style is cut wide across the chest and shoulders to allow for it to be put on which must be taken into account when considering the sizes below. It should suit someone of around a 34-36" chest and when laid flat the shirt measures -
Chest - 21"
Inside arm - 20"
Outside arm - 22 1/2"
Length at front - 24"
Length at back - 26 1/2"
Shoulders 15 1/2"
The shirt is in good wearable condition with no major flaws or defects. Please study the pictures and bear in mind that this is a vintage shirt which may have small issues commensurate with age.
A nice period shirt with great pockets!
