Original 1940s CC41 Men's Oatmeal Tweed Three Button Jacket - Size 36

Original 1940s CC41 Men's Oatmeal Tweed Three Button Jacket - Size 36

Code: 53439

A stunning original 1940s CC41 labelled Men's Tweed Jacket in excellent condition.

This jacket was made as part of the CC41 utility scheme which was brought into effect in the UK in 1941 as part of the larger rationing scheme. The idea behind it was that affordable, quality clothing would be available to everyone of every class and could be bought using coupons.

The jacket is made from a beautiful, oatmeal coloured tweed which is evocative of the period. It features a three button front, notched lapel, an angled chest pocket and two flapped pockets to the lower portion. In keeping with the period the jacket is cut short in the body and features no rear vent. This style is often referred to as 'bum freezer' and was the most common length for jackets in the late 1930s and 1940s. The jacket also features heavily padded shoulders which is again another typical trait from this period.

Inside the jacket is fully lined with a black coloured rayon material and there is a hanging loop to the neck. There is one large interior pocket and the CC41 label is also present. It is sewn into the side seam as they often are and bears no fabric code which may suggest this is an early example.

The jacket will suit someone of around a 36" chest depending on desired fit and when laid flat measures -

Chest - 19 1/2"
Inside arm - 18 1/2"
Outside arm - 25"
Length - 28 1/2"
Shoulders - 16"

The jacket is in stunning condition as can be seen in the pictures. It shows next to no signs of previous wear or use and displays extremely well. There are a few marks to the lining but this is only noticeable on close inspection and not visible when worn. The only real flaw is a couple of small holes to the right of the fron sleeve as detailed in picture 4. These are only noticeable under close scrutiny due to the fluffy nature of the tweed fabric. Please study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that this is a vintage, pre-owned item.

This is a fantastic original 1940s jacket in great condition. Not only does it bear the all important CC41 label but it is also made from a fantastic fabric. This would make a brilliant addition to any wardrobe or collection without a doubt!
