A fantastic pair of new old stock, unworn British made coveralls dating from the 1940s. These were made as part of the CC41 utility scheme which proved good quality clothing for people of all classes at a fair price. It began in 1941 and lasted for the rest of the decade.

This particular set of overalls are typical of the period being made from an indigo blue coloured cotton drill and featuring removable revolving shank buttons which are white in colour. These are typical of the type of buttons used on workwear during this period and could be removed for laundering purposes. The overalls also feature a waist belt which again fastens with a revolving shank button. The rear of the belt is attached to a large flap which covers the seat. This is occasionally seen on other period overalls and is sometimes referred to as an 'evacuation flap'! It is illustrated in pictures 9 and 10.

Inside the overalls below the neck is the original size label which reads '32'. Below this is the CC41 label which bears the code of 3111/2.

The overalls are a smaller size which are intended to fit a 32" chest. When laid flat they measure -

Chest - 16"
Inside arm - 17 1/4"
Outside arm - 23"
Inside leg - 27"
Cuff - 8 1/2"
Shoulders - 13 1/2"

The overalls are in excellent condition and are still the deep blue colour they would have been when new. There is some light staining, mainly to the legs, but this may come out with careful cleaning. On the whole they are in excellent, wearable condition but please bear in mind that they are a vintage pre-worn item which may have small issues commensurate with age.

A great pair of original 1940s overalls with some fantastic details and the all important CC41 label.
