A nice original 1940s British hacking jacket made from Harris Tweed by 'Burton'.

This style of jacket was extremely popular in the UK for many years and were worn for various country pursuits. It is made from a heavy tweed wool and features a three button front, notched lapel, welt pocket to the chest and lower flapped pockets. The rear features a twin vent which is a typical feature of hacking jackets. The interior is lined with a golden coloured cotton rayon mix which was popular during this period.

Inside the jacket the Burton label is located to the neck which is an odd placement, as these are usually fitted below the interior pocket. It is the standard 'Tailors of Taste' label which was used from the 1930s through to the early 1950s. Below the interior pocket is the Harris tweed label which is black style also used throughout this period.

The jacket will suit a 38" chest and when laid flat it measures -

Chest - 21"
Inside arm - 17 3/4"
Outside arm - 24 3/4"
Shoulders - 17"
Length - 29 1/2"

The jacket is in good condition with some staining and plenty of signs of use. It is a very sound jacket overall however, and is totally wearable. There are no serious flaws or issues and it is still a very wearable jacket. Please study the pictures and bear in mind that this is a pre-owned hacking jacket with various flaws.

A classic piece of British country wear in a striking fabric.
