These buffalo check shirts are an iconic piece of American workwear which have been produced for many, many years. The label dates this example to being made before 1947.These shirts became a staple for the lumberjacks and other outdoor-workmen due to its high visibility, endurance, and warmth and have since been worn by many others gaining them an important place in fashion history and iconic status today.

The shirt is made from a wool flannel which features the classic red and black checked pattern. It features a button front as well as two breast pockets which also fasten with buttons. The shirt features a typical 1940s collar shape and has long sleeves which end in a barrel cuff.

Inside the shirt the original label is still present and features the maker's name of 'Woolrich' and a graphic of sheep. Various details on the label date this to being made in the 1940s before 1947 when the label was changed for a new version. There is also a size tag underneath the label which bears the size of '15'.

The shirt should fit a 38" - 40" chest well depending on desired fit. When laid flat it measures -

Chest - 44"
Inside arm - 21"
Outside arm - 24 1/4"
Shoulders - 18"
Length - 32 1/2"

The shirt is in good condition and displays well. It is still very wearable with some signs of previous wear and use. There are some small holes which are illustrated in the pictures but these are only noticeable under close scrutiny. Please take time to study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that this is a vintage, pre-worn item which may have small flaws commensurate with age.

A nice example of this classic piece of workwear from the 1940s.
