£105.00 Approx $128.83, €122.24

An original 1930s wool flannel collarless shirt by 'Andre & Co'.

This shirt is typical of those made and worn during the 1930s and 1940s. It is made from an oatmeal coloured wool which has a blue pinstripe running through it. It is of half placket design which is pulled on over the head. This design was prevalent from the Victorian period through to the 1950s when full button front shirts started to gain popularity.

The collar is a neckband style made from white cotton. It is designed to be worn with a detachable collar but can also be worn without one. Below this the original label is still present to the interior and features a label with very sans serif graphics, typical of the 1920s and 1930s. The brand name 'Andre & Co Ltd Shirt Makers' is present, as is the address of 163 Piccadilly London. Another small label has been removed above this, possibly a name tag.

The shirt is a larger size and when laid flat measures -

Chest - 24"
Inside arm - 23 1/2"
Outside arm - 25 3/4"
Shoulders - 16"
Length at front - 32 1/2"
Length at back - 36"

It is important to remember that these shirts are cut very wide across the chest to allow them to be pulled on over the head so the true fit will be much smaller than the measurement provided. Also, the shirt has a french cuff which would usually be worn turned back so roughly 2 1/2" needs to be detracted from the sleeve measurement.

The shirt is in reasonable condition for its age but does have some light staining and a small area of damage to one of the cuffs. This has been reflected in the price but please take time to study the pictures.

An original pre-war period shirt with a great label. It would suit a variety of wartime uniforms including LDV, Home Guard and many more.
